How do I stop camera raw automatically...

Everytime I load an image in photoshop or camera raw from bridge it automatically applies 50% brightness and 25% contrast and 5% black fill. It's ruining the pictures. I have already tried resetting photoshop and bridge to their default settings using cntrl, shift, delete. Any ideas?

Index does not get generated in WebHelp...

The index in my RoboHelp project was created using the Index Wizard. It looks fine in the project but does not show up in the output.

When I Generate Primary Layout, the dialog box, WebHelp General...?shows the name of the index file (although it is grayed out).

I am using RoboHelp 7.03.001 to generate a help system created from FrameMaker 8.0 files which are added to the project by reference.

Any help would be appreciated!

The index is greyed out when there is only one index, same for TOC etc. So as long as your project does only have one index, that is normal. Check RH is only showing one index.

When you add the FM topics, the dialog had an option to import the FM index. Did you tick that? Could there be a conflict there? Sorry I am not a FM user but that is one thought that occurs to me.

Are you generating the output to a local drive?

When you open the help, is there a yellow information bar above it?

I tried to get the RoboHelp default project index to be populated with entries from an Index of a FrameMaker book. This is what I did:

When importing an ExampleBookIX.fm file, in the Contents Settings dialog box, I check mark Convert Index (and beside this selection is the name of the RoboHelp default index for my project) and then I selected Add to Existing Index. Next the Style Setting dialog box opened. I checked to see whether the FrameMaker index Paragraph Styles might have been shown as ''no output''. But these seemed to be OK as Source. The Import did not display any index entries from the FrameMaker book.

Next I tried to populate the RoboHelp default project index by importing a FrameMaker ExampleBookIX.fm file and use the option, Create New Associated Index, in the Content Settings dialog box. RoboHelp created the new index file in the project but it was blank.

Yes when I open the help, there is initially a yellow information bar saying ''To help protect your security, Internet Explorer restricted...'' And then I select the option to Allow Blocked Content.

In an example I was sent recently, there was a .book file that referenced the .fm files that included an index. That worked OK when adding by reference. I am not sure if that approach makes a difference. I don't work with FM so not sure.

However, you are importing so RH is creating topics and then you are auto generating an index. You see the index in RH Project Manager with entries but you don't see them in the output. Is there an index button / tab in the output?

In the output of my WebHelp project there is an index button on the toolbar and there is also a text box under it with the text: Type in the keyword to find:.

I did a test RoboHelp HTML project with one book from my real project which contains 16 books. The index was created using the Smart Index Wizard and after generated the Index pane in the output is showing all the entries.

It seems that the size of my project may be the issue? My project folder is 189 MB with 9116 files, and 304 folders.

Yes that is a large project but it should not prevent the index from working, albeit slowly.

Am I right in understanding you get an index if you create a small project but not in the full project. I am tempted to suggest you import some more books and keep testing after each two or three books to see if it falls over or fixes the problem.

Did you try renaming the CPD file and then reopening the original project at any point? Worth a shot given the alternative work.

Hello All,

I have inherited a custom application on Flash Media Interactive Server 3.0 that broadcasts audio in real time. The custom app is written using Adobe Flash Professional 8 and actionscript 2.0.

A little background of how the custom app works

When a user connects to the media server to join a stream, our custom application calls out to a seperate application server (that is not Flash) to determine if the user is allowed to connect to a broadcast stream and which stream they should join. We use Xml.sendAndLoad() to do this. The application server we call sends back Xml to the custom App on the Flash Media Server.

The problem

This all works great when the external app server is at http but fails if the external app is using SSL. I've read in the documentation that Flash Media Server allows for outgoing communications with other servers to use SSL but I can find no details on how to implement.

The questions I have are:

1. Can the Flash Media Server talk to a non Flash server via SSL?

2. Can XML.sendAndLoad( ) connect to a SSL url?

3. Where can I find some info on how to set things up if the above two are true?

Any help anyone can give me would be greatly appreciated!

These things work a bit differently than that.?If you want help, you can come to those who are willing to help you.?You shouldn't expect people to bend over backwards to help you, it is up to you to bend over backwards if you really want that help.

If you really want help, come back and post your problem with any relating information (code, screenshots, etc) that someone may need to help troubleshoot.

Spry Tabbed Panels and Pop Up Link from...

I've created an image map with Hotspot links to either send to another web page or to open a previously created Pop Up window with information.

• I've imported my image, image map and Hotspots into a tab
  • The issue I'm having is when clicking on the hotspot (within the Spry tabbed panel), to open the pop up page; it doesn't work
  • If I select a Hotspot which sends users to another web page, that works ok.
    

Would appreciate it if someone else who has run into this and what your recommendation is for a fix.

Updated Camera Raw File for CS2 / Canon...

I am still using Photoshop CS2, but unfortunately I need the updated Camera Raw file (v5.6) for use with the Canon Powershot G10, and it appears the unless I upgrade to CS4 I won't be able to view any RAW files shot with this camera.

Is there an updated Camera Raw version for the Powershot G10 that is still supported under CS2?

It's not getting imported in Flash. When I searched online, I got the solution that if I change the file extension from .vob to .mpeg, Flash will allow me to import that video, but I still couldn't do it.

I suspect you'd have to change the actual file type to mpeg then, which sort of defeats the purpose in a way. Maybe someone can recommend a video file conversion application. I've used iMovie on the Mac to convert some file types, but I don't know if it will work on .vob files.

Problems when placing graphics into...

We recently upgraded to CS4 from CS3.?We have several files set up with a graphic frame, into which we place pdfs.

Since upgrading to CS4 when we place a new pdf into the frame it will randomly reduce or enlarge the new pdf.?I've tried several different import options, and I've placed a new frame, imported my graphic at 100% and saved it as a CS4 file, closed the document and reopened it, and it still happens.

I googled the problem and found one comment on a review that mentioned something similiar, but no solutions.?I was wondering if anyone else has encountered this and a way to fix it is known.

Are you saying the placed image is a different size when the save document is closed and re-opened? That would be a bug and should be reported, along with an offer to supply a sample file, at Adobe - Feature Request/Bug Report Form.

The placed image is the same size, however when I import a new pdf into that frame that new pdf is resizing.?The box is set to none as far as fitting is concerned and it doesn't seem to matter which import option I select.

I haven't been able to find the page I was on agian.?It was just a standard review of CS4's new features.?It was referencing a blurb about thier new proportional fitting option though.

The program has been shut down and restarted and it's still doing it, and as I mentioned above, the fitting option is set to none, the pdf being replaced is scaled at 100%, I've tried replacing the frame and importing a pdf and it is still randomly rescaling them.

I wanted to check and see if anyone new something about it before reporting it as a bug, but will do that if I don't hear anything.

Preserve image dimensions is ticked on.

Problem happens when mutlipage PDF is placed into ID and imposed and sent away for approval.

When it comes back with replacement PDF. The replacement PDF is then relinked via either the links pallet or File%26gt;place method (happens both ways).

for example if the original PDF is placed at 100%

Sent away for approval

Updated PDF replaces old PDF which, instead of coming in at 100%, comes in at, for example, 98.569% (in proportion, so it's not fitting to frame)

Strange...Have run all updates.

What's the source of the PDF? We had a similar problem with someon placing AI artwork. Though I'm not sure it was ever definitively solves, I think it was a stray point.

Umm it's from the same source...but you can imagine they could come from everywhere...

This problem has only cropped up since CS4...CS3 worked fine

It should still come in at 100% regardless of the size of the source file instead it come in at 98.56584 or some other obscure percentage

By source I meant what application was used to make them.

It could be anything as the files come from everywhere and anywhere... they travel from client to little local print shop to pre-press house. The pre-press is the one imposing and running plates for the print shop and thus having the issue...

Preserve dimensions does precisely that 2 x 3 remains 2x3, even if the new file is 4x6. It isn't a percentage based setting.

Preserve dimension is selected in the preferences... it works in CS3...

If I insert a PDF in a picture frame at 100% and later down the line I replace that PDF with another, I expect it to go in at the percentage of the previous PDF which was 100%

If I'm replacing a whole stack of PDF pages layed out in different picture frames in for example I expect them to come in at whatever percentage.

I don't expect to have to change some obscure percentage back to, say 100%, on every single picture frame...

Preserve dimensions works so that if you re-sample an image, for example, and relink it remains the same physical size in the frame.

Try UNCHECKING it and see if that helps.

They turned off preserve image dimension, and it came in at whatever the old one was set to.

Multiple problems, can anyone help?...

Hello all you crazy filmy people!?I have some problems, this is my first time posting so be patient!

Firstly, my machine is brand new - running Windows Vista Business (64 Bit), it's an Intel Core i7 CPU (920 @ 2.6 GHz) with 4GB RAM.?It's had a fresh reinstall after encountering problems with Premiere CS4 (there are no other programmes installed on the edit suite) and the entire Creative Suite was uninstalled and reinstalled.?My graphics card is an ATI Radeon X1600/X1650 series which is ''working properly''.?The driver is dated 2/25/2009 which seems perfectly reasonable.?Video card is BlackMagic.

Problems!

1) I cannot seem to work with timecode whatsoever - not even after loading an old project from Premiere CS2 that was batch captured properly (within Premiere CS2)........ basically, SOME of the timecode that was there in CS2 has now mysteriously been reset to 0:00:00 (etc)..... this is very frustrating as I have 18 commercials that need to be onlined and now I have no reference (feel my pain, 15'' ads that were shot on over 32 different reels) - this is going to take me an age to do manually as it is such tiny moments that need to be picked out and I am freaking out!!!!

2) I can't render. At all. It plays back fine, 90% of the time, but seriously guys - why is this happening?? I'm not using anything with funny codecs - this is pure clean .avi footage that was digitised within CS4!!!???Highly frustrating, especially when I have to explain to clients why things are jittery!

3) goshdarnit why did they take away the export frame feature! SOO annoying going through this new Media Encoder fandangle and then, after all the effort of setting everything up, the frame is capture and is BLURRY (argh! need I say more!)

4) Ok, so since when did ''un''-enabling audio tracks lead to fuzzy beeps and weirdness when it comes to playing back audio?

5) Last, but worst, I cannot upgrade to 4.01 because I can't even work without it crashing.

PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!!

I guess the first step might be to remove the Blackmagic card and the software.?You should not be having all those problems and the first thing would be to try it that way.?Also upgrade your graphics driver to the latest version.?Have you tuned your Vista OS??Did you run the Adobe cleanup script before the reinstall??What is your disk configuration?

I'm not sure what you mean by disk configuration - all the footage is on an internal RAID drive - is this it?

What Bill means is to first try if you still have the same problems without the BlackMagic card and software. This may well be related to some kind of driver incompatibilities, that do not run well with CS4 4.1. I haven't heard about these problems when there was no BlackMagic card involved.

In the second place Bill wants to know how many physical hard disks you have in your system and what raid you are using, 0, 1, 5, 10?

With Business 64 you may benefit from extra memory. ATI has monthly driver updates, usually denoted by y.m (year.month) so the most current version is 9.6

The Raid is 5 - we are waiting for the rest of the memory to arrive as it is a brand new machine, so we are going to have 24 GIG RAM in total.?However this still does not answer my question regarding Timecode - any clues as to what could be causing this loss of data?

Have you tried, as Bill and I suggested, removing the BlackMagic card, drivers and other BM software, creating a new standard DV project, capture from your video camera and edit that? Still have the problems?

You are currently using version 9.2 for your video driver. Update to 9.6. How many drives in your raid5? On the IHCR chip?

The loss of timecode started to happen in CS3 and is not fixed in CS4. I highly doubt that the Blackmagic card has anything to do with it, but try it for testing purposes.

I worked around it in CS3 by importing the clip(s) into either PPro 1.5 or 2.0 and export them out directly from the Project panel. I imported the newly exported clip into PPro CS3 and the original timecode appeared again. By exporting the clips from the Project panel you wont affect the length of the clips. I did this for PAL DV, so if it happened with HDV i could not work around that issue.

To export stills without even using Adobe Media Encoder, install the 4.1 upgrade, not the 4.0.1 upgrade.

That may be, although I never experienced it, but that still leaves the rendering problem, the crashing problem and the fuzzy audio.

Have not been able to remove the decklink card yet, as the day has been full of previews so will only be able to try that tomorrow when things are quieter in the office.?Re. timecode issues - this is a project that I digitised (MJpegA 720x576 PAL) in Premiere CS2 which we have ''upgraded'' to this new machine, the timecode shows in the old suite fine but some of the clips have timecode and some don't when I bring it in to CS4 which is what makes it so strange.?Frustrating because I need timecode refs for telecine and have since made changes to the edits in CS4 for lack of another suite...

I have tried with limited success to use CS2 Live Trace, did Adobe improve this appl. in CS3 or CS4?? I have a hard time getting it to hold live weights.

I realize this is a subject for many books and for years of experience, but just to get me off to a better start, what is the best way to work with Devlope? Is it just to start from the top down, starting with the histogram? I've heard that you should establish white balance first. I'm shooting RAW and feel that Lightroom is a great place to make the most of an image's potential. I know the advanced tricks that Photoshop can do, but for straightforward exposure and color corrections, I'm beginning to think that Lightroom has it all.

Please fill me in on what you are looking for as you go through the process.

Use the History panel to go back to an earlier setting or two; play around.

If white balance is way off, I'd start there, but I haven't seen any adverse effects of tweaking WB anywhere along the process...

Ken, you're right.?THere are a number of books that offer their input on how to work through the Develop module.

For a quick answer, I'd say that I typically work from the top down for the most part.

Before I get into sliders, I first do any cropping that needs to be done. After that, I typically fix any mistakes like dust spots.

I like to correct white balance first, then I work through the Exposure, Blacks, Recovery, and Fill Light sliders. (Almost every one of my photos gets at least a small amount of Exposure and Blacks adjustment.)?I typically add some Clarity and Vibrance, as well.

Most of my images get a small amount of vignetting adjustment (darkening the edges slightly).

Now is the time for local adjustments.?I use the Local Adjustment Brush and Graduated Filter to make any local changes that I desire. (Most of my images can be improved by a bit of local adjustment.)

Other than that, if my images need/want something else, I just jump around the different Develop options.

My workflow is similar to Scott's and it also treats me well.

If you're into books, Scott Kelby's 7-point System for Photoshop CS3 does a suprisingly good job at workflow recommendations. It mentions a lot of Adobe Camera Raw and some Lightroom. The book is great and as it's been out a little while, can probably be found used somewhere on the cheap.

I agree with Scott, except that I prefer to adjust the exposure first, then move to the other adjustments. I think its easer to view/ make WB adjustments with correct exposure.

It has a full range of server behaviors and other tools that make it easy to create core dynamic pages in PHP, as well as ASP and ColdFusion. These include:

• Create connection to database
• Create recordset (simple or advanced)
• Binding panel - for dragging and dropping dynamic data on da page (had to keep the alliteration going ;-)
• Repeat region (for displying multiple records from a recordset)
• Insert record
• Update record
• Delete record
• Show region based on recordset empty or not empty
• Authentication routines for creating a log in page and protecting pages in your site

There are many other PHP specific tools. Of course, it will only take you so far, but you can build a very robust site just using the Dreamweaver dynamic toolset.

I assume you are shooting jpg files with your camera.?If you set your camera to sRGB, Adobe RGB, etc, then that tag should be attached to the JPG file when it is saved to your storage card.?So, in that case, yes, you would honor the tag when opening it in Photoshop.?It is the ''combination'' or RGB numbers and a valid ICC profile that nails down what colors you have.?So, if you just want to move to CMYK without doing any editing, there is no reason to convert to another flavor of RGB first.?Just leave it as source, then convert to CMYK using whatever CMYK profile and rendering intent you need.

Two conversions are not beneficial in this case.?There is always some minor rounding error when converting from one profile to another.?If you have a 16 bit original file, it is essentially immaterial.?Even 8 bit files will rarely show much or any visible difference.

Rick, ''normally'' (99% of the time) you want to honor the embedded profile to preserve the colors.?There are a few situations where you might choose to stray from that path.

1.?Your file either does not have an embedded profile tag (what we call mystery meat), or it may be improperly tagged (usually by someone who mucked with the color settings before you).?In this case, you can try assigning a different profile to see if that renders colors more accurately.?For example, someone may have accidentally tagged an Adobe RGB file with sRGB, in which case, it will look flat and unsaturated.?By assigning Adobe RGB again, your colors will jump back to life.?Assigning does NOT change the numbers in the file.?It merely interprets those numbers differently.

2.?Let's say you have a JPG file that is properly tagged as sRGB, but looks dark and is not very saturated.?You can try Assigning different RGB profiles.?For example, if you assign ProPhoto RGB, the image will be come lighter (because ProPhoto has a gamma of 1.8, whereas sRGB has a gamma of 2.2), and the colors will also go from flat to very saturated.?If you Assigned Adobe RGB to your sRGB file, the overall brightness will remain unchanged since both are 2.2 gamma spaces, but Adobe RGB is a larger space and will intrepret the colors as more saturated.?So, you can do these types of things if it improves the image and the original tag looks like crap.?Of course, you can do many of these corrections with curves, levels, Hue/Saturation, etc.?If your original is tagged AdobeRGB and you want to tone down the color saturation somewhat, you can Assign sRGB.

So, there are some situations where assigning a different profile can be helpful.?But normally, you want to honor the profile that is embedded in your file.?Of course, if you need to move to CMYK, you need to convert to whatever CMYK profile you need, based on the output device.?BTW, you cannot Assign a CMYK profile to an RGB file.?Assigning only works in the same color mode (ie, RGB to RGB, CMYK to CMYK).

Here are some Mac tips that might come in handy right now.

I still advocate Repairing Permissions (with Apple's Disk Utility) before AND after any system update or upgrade, as well as before AND after installing any software that requires an installer that asks for your password.

I have seen software installations go sour because the installer did not find everything as and where it should be.?I have also seen software installations go bad because the installer did not clean up after itself properly and did not leave everything as and where it should be.?This is just my own personal opinion and practice based on my own observations.

Others may disagree and that's OK. I can only base my routines and my advice to others on my own experience and conclusion. I don't pretend to know why others believe otherwise.?Note that this suggestion begins with ''I still advocate閳?, not ''Apple recommends閳?.

Repairing Permissions after the fact (i. e. not immediately before and after an install) may NOT help.?Try it anyway, though.

?==== Additionally,?if your machine does not run 24/7 so that it runs the daily, weekly and monthly Cron Scripts in the middle of the night as intended by Apple, run Cocktail (shareware) as well.

Cron Scripts are maintenance routines designed by Apple to run on a daily, weekly and monthly basis in the middle of the night.?If you don't run them, you WILL run into trouble, sooner rather than later.

Also, be advised that the software tests sometimes miss RAM errors that trip Photoshop.?Photoshop is the ultimate RAM test.

Apple is as susceptible to shipping bad RAM on a rare occasion as any other vendor.

What you are doing now is very sensible.?Whenever I get a new Mac, the first thing I do is to open it up, make sure all RAM modules are sitting properly in their slots, check all internal and external cable connections, wipe the hard drive and write it to zeros (yes, it takes a while), then install the OS from the original DVD, Repair Permissions with Apple's Disk Utility, apply the latest Apple Combo update to bring the OS to the current version, Repair Permissions again, then install applications from the original media, Repairing Permissions before AND after each installation.

Watch out for problem fonts, either corrupted, poorly constructed or duplicate fonts.?A single problem font can bring the Mac crashing down even when you are not using that particular font in your document.

FontAgent Pro (FAP) is the best font manager for the Mac and is excellent at ferreting out problem fonts.?There's a fully functional 30-day demo available.

DiskWarrior is good to have in case a hard drive crashes so badly that it won't even mount.?It fixes Directory issues and it has saved my assets on at least two occasions.

Hmmmm......it seems to me it varies from one application to the next.?Opt with left and right arrow seems to take me to the beginning and end of the next word fairly consistently.?Sometimes Cmd with right and left arrow takes to the beginning and end of the line.?Sometimes Ctrl.?Home and End seem to take me to the beginning and end of a document.

Programs I am typically using:?typing or editing emails in Gmail (web based), Firefox navigation inside text on web pages, TextEdit, Pages, etc.?Doesn't seem there is any consistency, and sometimes I cannot find any key combination that takes me to the beginning or end of the existing line.?In Windows it is simply Home or End.?I hope I don't have to use different combos from one application to the next.

Yes, that behavior is variable and application specific.

In most Mac programs, Home takes you to the very beginning of the page, and End takes you to the very bottom.

MS Word uses Command+arrow to move you the beginning or end of the line.

The content area in Bridge extends beyond the screen.?Even though I pull the view slide all the way right,?there are still images beyond that will not display.?Using the arrow cursor to highlight images beyond the screen, I can get the images to display in preview area.?I can make the thumbnails very small to see them all, but then there are nearly impossible to view.?Is there a setting that I am missing?

I am trying to publish an update to our Air project and either my password is not working or I forgot it! (I know I used one of my regular passwords)

The cert is self signed and no more than 6 months old..

What can I do? I have been looking at the migrate command with ADT but it doesn't specify if I still need that old password..

To migrate the signature, you do need to use the password for the old cert. Sorry, I don't think there are any workarounds. I suppose you could write a script tuned to your own password patterns and use the adt -checkstore command until you found the correct password.

Without the old cert, your users will have to uninstall the old version before installing the update.

Using AIR output for my Robohelp 8 project and I was having difficulties with the default AIR template.?My difficulities are with the printing inside of the AIR app.?Not sure how it controls printing but the print is 10 times bigger than it should be.?I haven't been able to find any control for the font mapping.

I asked this question awhile back. I'm really not sure why the font gets so blown up once you print.

But anyways...the work-around given to me was to create a new topic and have that topic point to a PDF version of the document. That way, if someone needs to print anything, they can just print from the PDF as opposed to directly from the Air topics.

Is there a tool for editing multiple words in a paragraph at the same time? Example to add bold, italics, change the color or change the font to certain words in that particular paragraph?

You don't say what program you're doing the formatting in, nor what platform you're using, so that makes an answer rather difficult.

Very very few programs support selection of multiple, separate bits of text within the same block of text.

However, a number of programs, such as Adobe InDesign, support character styles. You would want to set up a character style with all the formatting attributes you want to apply, and then you could apply it to the selected words one at a time, and they would automatically pick up the formatting you want.

The styling paintbrush in Microsoft Word can also be used to apply a bunch of different formatting parameters all at once, though again only to one continuous piece of text at a time.

OK for example...InDesign. Is there a tool that you can select SPECIFIC words to effect...as opposed to the whole paragraph??thanks

This is an example of what I mean in Photoshop. For selecting multiple words in the same paragraph. It would be nice if this tool existed. For example when you have the text tool selected, you should be able to hold shift and select multiple words.

If it's any help, you can also select multiple individual words in Word 2007 (don't know about other versions) by holding down the CTRL key while you drag the mouse. You can then apply the formatting in the usual way to all of them simultaneously.

My nderstanding was that the original poster wanted to select non-continuous words. For example, one word in sentence one, one in sentence three, and so on. There are some apps that can do this for arbitrary text, biut it's not a common feature. (Word has the capability to select stufff that already has the same styling, though, kind of like having character styles without actually applying them.)

Mine too. Just checked in Word and it works as described. Select the first word in the series without CTRL and then CTRL-select any others that you want. Unless you select one word in the ordinary way first, CTRL-select gives you the entire sentence.

Is there Actionscript 2 that can be put in a preloader and play only the first movie clip on the root timeline instead of all of the root's timeline

CP3 Buttons fail to pause?

I have a captivate 3 project where I have 5 buttons on the time line. All five start at the beginning of the slide, all pause at the same time, all end at the same time. (slide is 2 sec long, buttons pause at 1 sec)?If you click on a button all jump to a different slide in the same project. I have about 20 slides set up like this. Problem: random people in my organization have told me that when they get to some of these slides, the project does not pause and just goes to the next slide.

I did a project last year and had no issues like this. I am publishing to use Flash player 9. It seems that people who are using Flash player 9 have more problems that people using Flash player 10. I have replaced every button in the project... I still have failures.

In the past I have had major issues when I have cut and pasted buttons and have stop using that practice.

The project fails when running in our LMS (Pathlore 6.6)?but also if I run it outside of the LMS. I as the developer can not get it to fail.

Anyone have any insites?

After testing people using Flash player 9 had buttons fail. If they updated to Flash player 10 no failures.

What I did was open a new project and import the one one into the new one and now it works with both Player 9 and 10.

Go figure.

Question on Flash CS3 Exporting AVI -...

I have CS3 Production Premium and I'm trying to export a Flash animation file as an AVI from my Flash program. I have succeded in exporting both compressed Cinepak Codec by Radius and uncompressed AVI's. However these are either too big or too low quality to edit in Premiere.

On my drop down Menu on the Video Compression Window it gives me the option for various Matrox codecs because I have a Matrox RTX2 installed in my system. However, when I choose one for export it gives me ''Error in creating AVI file''. Since these are appearing as options in my Flash menu I am hoping there is a way to get these to work. Any Ideas?

I was having a problem with numbers in the table of contents; some of them had a prefix (like CH_5:56) and this started in the middle of a chapter in the table of contents.

I think I found the problem: it was section numbers -- some chapters have sections.I went through and deselected all ''Start New sections''

But when I did ''Update All Numbers'' each and every chapter became its own section. Now all chapters start at page one and I can get them to number sequentially anymore.

Every chapter now has a section mark at the begining and I can't get rid of it.?In the document numbering options ''Start Section'' is selected but dimmed out, I can't deselect it.

What can I do to get the entire book to number?chapters sequentially again??It was working OK before. How can I deselect ''Start Section'' for each chapter when it is dimmed out?

I'm trying to figure out a way to make a flipbook, and I think the only thing I'm missing is the technique to get to do the actual page turn. There would seem to be an ActionScript that's being used in flipbook pages to pull the corner along with the cursor On Mouse Down and ''flip'' the graphic on Release, but I can't find a relevent script. It appears the graphic itself is simply a jpeg version of the page, with a transparent shadow that simulates the bend of the paper, which I'm pretty sure I could find a way to create in Flash.

Or... if anyone can direct to a better way to do this I'd be appreciative. We currently assemble all the individul pages of the publication. Some are simple static pages as pdfs or jpegs. Some are highly interactive Flash swf files, with animation built in, and buttons which reveal more content, play animated secquences, and so on. (From here we've been sending out to a third-party vendor to convert to flipbook form, but it's been a lot of extra trouble and expense so I'd prefer to do the entire flipbook in-house if possible.)

I'm pretty sure we can duplicate most (if not all) of the functionality of a flipbook using html (via Dreamweaver) for the main flipbook site, and Flash files for the individual pages. It seems that if I can nail down how to actually do the page flip interaction I can probably do the rest without much trouble. Has anyone out there built something like this themselves? Any better suggestions?

That doesn't seem to help. The only returns I'm getting on that search seem to be for creating a frame-by-frame animation, which if you'll read my post is not at all what I'm talking about. Apparently that's also called a flipbook, so maybe there's a better word I should have used. I'm referring to flipbook publications, where each page of an online book or magazine can be manipulated by the user like a virtual publication. The corners are active areas that can be dragged, or clicked on, to flip to the next page spread. I'm trying to track down the ActionScript that accomplishes that function, if it exists... or any better ideas on how to accomplish a page-flippable online publication from my independent swf pages.

No sound with flashplayer

I have tried all suggestions provided by nviel which seemed to be along the right track but I still have no sound with flashplayer using IE8 and Vista Home Premium. My regedit settings are correct when I go back thru them. Adobe's site didn't want me to go back to flashplayer 9 that was fully functional. I have no problem loading the program which seems to be another common problem. I have uninstalled and reinstalled many times!!!

I have a small issue in Flex Builder 3 using Eclipse. Whenever I save my project, it doesn't update the compiler warnings that are generated, leaving old and sometimes duplicate warnings in the ''Problems'' tab. Even when the issue is fixed. In some cases it has the same warning applied 4 or 5 times and I can't seem to clear it.

Is there a way to clean up your external style sheet. In other words, I have made many changes to my site, positioning elements mainly and naming my styles differently from the original. I want to delete all the styles in my css stylesheet that no longer applies to my newly edited site. Is there a way for dreamweaver to check and delete all styles in the style sheet that no longer link to elements in the site??

Or does all of that have to be done manually in the css source code??

The undo manager, by default, saves the action to be later undone later? In my application is not work perfectly. I write the text,

The UndoManager is only able to undo changes made with the EditManager. The EditManager groups changes into FlowOperations, where each operation is able to undo itself. This is not possible with changes made directly to the FlowElements, as done in your example. If you change your example to call EditManager.applyLeafElement, then your changes will be undoable. Note that any direct changes you make to the TextFlow will nullify the undo; in order for undo to work, you have to make all your changes with the EditManager.

Sorry, did not understand right. The solution would use applyFormatToElement instead of applyLeafFormat? I dont know other way to apply formatting in textflow.

I can't unzip it - windows explorer and cygwin unzip both claim its corrupt.?Posting files to the forums doesn't seem to be working particularly well - how about posting it elsewhere with a link?

Note there is a known bug in applyFormatToElement - its always applying the format to the TextFlow.?It was fixed last week but likely that update hasn't been posted yet.?But that won't have fixed any undo bugs.

Trouble begining to use Reader 9

I have just downloaded Adobe Reader 9 Version 9.1.2 and when I try to open a PDF I get an error messege ''Before proceeding you must first launch Adobe Acrobat and accept the End User License Agreement''. When I launch Adobe Acrobat I can't find the EULA anywhere. I have restarted my computer 3 times. Any help would be great.

You do realize that Acrobat and Reader are two different products right?

You shouldn't have both installed. If you accidently installed the Acrobat trial (which it sounds like you did), uninstall it then install Reader.

InDesign CS2 PDF Export is Screened

This problem just started happening to me last night.?All solids are appearing in PDFs as screened, however when I pull the PDFs I create into Illustrator to check them, they are fine.?Please help!?I usually export as press quality and a preset I made called press quality native color.

Reader or Pro? Do you have output preview turned on? Does the simulation space match the document?

That's odd. We've been having a similar problem recently, where plain black text in an ID document (CS2), everything black only, is sent to plate, and the solid blacks are screened. Not just text, but line-art as well. Current workaround is to print separations and print black only, which fixes the problem. What I can't work out is why it's just some documents. We do a lot of routine, black only printing and can't find any difference in how the documents are constructed or printed.

It is screened when I print it out thru Preview on my Mac also thru Acrobat Professional.?When I import the PDF into Illustrator and print it out...everythig is solid (correct).?I don't want to go thru the extra hassle of printing thru Acrobat...just want to use export to PDF from InDesign as I was doing prior.

Also, if I open the screened PDF in Illustrator (where it is solid) and re-save as a PDF, it becomes screened again!

Help:(

That might be an issue with your RIP driver.....?Re-install?

BTW, I just re-installed the whole CS2 suite...still having the same problem....

Hello,

Sometimes my objects graphs being returned from a remote call can be quite deep and complex.?As you know, if you don't have an explicit reference to all of the object types being returned from a remote call, you get this error:

''ArgumentError: Error #2004: One of the parameters is invalid.''

So, I know what the problem is, but I often have a heck of a time figuring out -which- class/type it's choking on.?It usually involves a lengthy process of trial and error.

I was wondering if I'm overlooking the obvious or if someone has good a method for determing which class(es) it's choking on?

Hmm.. I do get a stack trace... but nothing useful that I could find.?I'll run it again in a bit and post the stack trace here.

Scratch that.?You are right of course. I swear that I combed though that before and couldn't find anything useful.?Looking at it again, it doesn't tell me the problem class, but I do get the line # for the readObject() that it's failing on.?It's reading a collection of mixed types so I still don't know which one is the problem. But at least it's WAY narrowed down now.

Is there anyway to find out the x,y coordinates of a SpanElement, ParagraphElement or LinkElement as it scrolls in a scrollable TextArea?

Probably although the question is a bit problematic.?Any element can cross column and container boundaries so its hard to say what is meant by x,y position.?Elements that are scrolled out of view may not even be composed.?

Let's assume you mean the x,y position of the first atom in the element.?Start with the following formula - this is psuedo code and there may be other errors so you'll have to some research:

0. force the entire textFlow to compose textFlow.flowComposer.composeToPosition() followed by textFlow.flowComposer.updateAllContainers()

1. find the elements absoluteStart.?elem.getAbsoluteStart()

2. find the TextFlowLine containing the position.?textFlow.flowComposer.findLineAtPosition()

3. get the actual TextLine. textFlowLine.getTextLine(true)

4. You'll need the charIndex which is relative to the owning paragraph elem.getAbsoluteStart()-elem.findParagraph().getAbsoluteStart()

5. Using that find the atom that maps to the atome textLine.getAtomIndexAtCharIndex()

6. get the atom bounds textLine.getAtomBounds

7. The bounds are relative to the TextLine.?Convert them to the container coordinate system (or whatever coordinate system you want).?For x and y you may want to use textFlowLine.x and textFlowLine.y instead of TextLine.?The TextLine returned may not actually be the one that's on the display list.

8. Note that the container may be scrolled.?Use the verticalScrollPosition, horizontalScrollPosition to adjust

After I retrieve a record from the database using a Recordset in Dreamweaver, I am formatting the data and using JavaScript window.print() to send the data to the printer.?But even though the printer is activated I am getting a blank page.?Any ideas as to why window.print() is not working properly? I tried it with both IE and Firefox and I get the same result (note that my JavaScript is turned on).

HELP! I made a project/picture in photoshop elements 7 and saved it.?Now I want to edit (change text/move pictures around) this project, but it's not showing me all the layers like it originally did before where I could select what layer I wanted to work on or move around.?It's showing it all as one layer!?How do I get back to that setting where it showed all the layers in the layer window????

In which format did you save it? JPEGs can't have layers. If you want to keep your layers you need to choose psd or tiff, usually.

I think I figured it out.?I took out the format of the field to be calc'd and the result was, like 3.2 and should be 32%.?So I just added a couple of hidden fields to get that format (3.2) and then ran a simplified calc to get the percentage.?(100 * Text39)?(the value of Text39 is 3.2).?That gets me the percentage I wanted.

I guess that's what IT guys call a work around...

I think you missed the point. You are computing a percentage by division. If I remember by primary grade arithmetic correctly, one can not divide by zero! But I learned in high school algebra that under certain conditions it could be done but the value would approach Infinity or negative infinity. Acrobat can compute and report a result of 'Infinity' or 'Negative Infinity' with a text string or it will report a non-computable result with the 'NaN', Not a Number, text string. Text strings are not a numeric format, so if you divide by zero you will receive a text string response and that text string is not a numeric value.

You should be writing a custom calculation script to test for division by zero prior to performing the division.

I am trying to do color separations on a file in Illustrator CS2. Everything i've read says to first convert to PMS colors then to go File -%26gt; Print and choose PDF or Post Script File as the printer option then choose separations as the option. Unfortunately, Adobe PDF is not listed as a choice. There is an Adobe Post Script File choice but Illustrator won't let me select it.?I have Acrobat Reader v8 installed on my PC and can Save As adobe PDF.?Do I need some other plugin or product??I've done a lot of research on the web and can't find the answer to this - I'm hoping someone here will know.

Let me try to help you

1. You don't need to convert to PMS colors necesarilly, Illustrator separates all colors involved in your file, cmyk and PMS..

2. Under File/print you need to choose the settings I show you in the picture attached, so you have to choose some PPD and save, this give you a postcript file (.ps), wich you can see with the Preview app, or use distiller to see it with acrobat reader.

This is one way, but you say you can't select any option??if you clik under Printer or PPD, you can't select anything?

Are you on a Mac or Pc, What operating system?

What are the separations intented for?

if possible you can upload the file?

Hi Mario - Thank you so much for the terrific image. What your image shows is exactly what i am trying to do (i have a PC and am using illustrator CS2). However, the option of Printer: Adobe PostScript File is listed in the drop down box but Illustrator doesn't let me select it.?As a result i can't select PPD: Adobe PDF and Mode:Separations as you have in your image.?I'm not sure if this is a software install issue or if i need another program (I have Acrobat 8 installed on my machine), or if i'm just being dumb.?I asked a techie (familiar with PCs but not with illustrator) to look at it and he couldn't figure it out, so i'm hoping this is an illustrator specific issue. Do you have any ideas why I can't select Printer: Adobe PostScript File even though it is listed as a selection option?

a post script to my last reply: i'm using an education version of illustrator CS2, i wonder if that matters. Also, i am doing color separations as i have the file going to a screen printer (onto t shirts) and they require a file with color separations.

p.s. i took a look at the open source downloads you sent me, but i'm not very technical and i'm not sure how i could use them to fix my problem (i understand that i would have to open my file in another program and do color separations there, but not sure how to go about it and how time consuming it would be. I am fairly proficient in Photophop CS2 however).

Ok, I was thinking you could use free software like InkScape and gimp instead of Illustrator and photoshop?to do your jobs....but may be later

I reallky don't know how to fix the problem with illustrator but you have photoshop, may be with it you can solve the situation for now.

i've been doing sep's for way too long, and regarding you're comment about: ''how time consuming it would be'',

sometimes the most direct way, given software/output limitations, is to actually created separated art within illustrator, on layers.

Each layer being a b%26amp;w version of each individual color (traps, gradients, registration marks, and whatever included.

It's really archaic and time consuming, especially with complex art, but it works.

It also kind of forces you to keep your creations simpler in terms of effects and filters that rarely translate easily to print.

You'd then save out eps's of each individual layer/sep.

You should definitely check out some of Mario's suggestions though.

Re. Separations.pdf:

Been there, done that . And even in these days of HiTech it is still sometimes the only way of doing things.

For example some rips still can't cope with coloured greyscale tiffs set to multiply one on top of the other.

Black and white separations each with its own register marks was the only way to go - and this was only about a year ago.

I started on Illy88 donkey's ago - no way to work in preview mode, no pathfinder, no compounds.

People rushed out to buy Illy5 as soon as it came. It was a real wow (and I still occasionally use it)
