I usually work with illustrator and photoshop.聽 Just been asked to design some education books (including content) and wonder whether In Design is the best software to do this?
Any help would be very much appreciated.聽 Thanks.
Paul
Help! Totally greenI would use InDesign.
Help! Totally greenYes InDesign would be the best bet here. It supports multiple pages and hosts a lot of tools. I recommend doing a small course or buy some really good books on InDesign.
I have Real World InDesign on my desk all the time. It came in handy when I was learning the software to quickly look up how something functioned and how to use that function.
Great.聽 Thanks a lot for your reply.聽 I will get some good books on it then.聽 Thanks again!
Indesign is definitely your best bet.
I found the Visual Quickstart guide was the best guide for starting out (CS and CS2) and I still prefer that for other programs I use less frequently (it's cheaper), though I now use the Real World guide.
And, I just picked up Michael Murphy's Adobe InDesign Styles. I know a lot of it is covered in other books, but it's so well written and it's full colour.
It's especially useful in educational books which have loads of parts. Setting up the styles takes a lot of time but it's an amazing timesaver.
Two sites I visit frequently are www.indesignsecrets.com (one of the hosts is author to Real World InDesign) and www.theindesigner.com (Michael Murphy video blog, also author the Styles book mentioned above).
I still say get on a course to learn the basic usage of InDesign.
Thanks again guys, I really appreciate the help.聽 Looks like I have some studying to do!
Paul.
Indesign is an excellent tool for book design, as well as for book production.
Of course, you'd probably get a similar reaction if you asked about Quark in the Quark forum.
